Dr. Alice Brauer, a retired LCMS missionary who’s been called the church’s “Mother Teresa” for her 45 years of witness and mercy work in India, tells about her service to families in need — providing infant care and care for the elderly and the homeless — and how she has seen the Holy Spirit at work through her mercy efforts to bring others to Christ. Brauer was recognized at the church’s 65th Regular Convention with a standing ovation. The 75-year-old remains in India, continuing to serve part time on her own at Bethesda Hospital in Ambur, working with new mothers and their babies, and assisting the India Evangelical Lutheran Church, an LCMS partner church. The Synod convention is meeting July 20-25 under the theme “Baptized for This Moment.” Among convention participants are some 1,200 clergy and lay voting delegates.
