On the morning of Feb. 27, 2010, an 8.8-magnitude earthquake rocked central Chile, damaging buildings and washing away people in the tsunami that followed. Chilean Lutherans hundreds of miles away quickly responded, bringing Christ to the quake’s epicenter. At the request of leaders of the Confessional Lutheran Church of Chile, LCMS Disaster Response provided on-site assistance and financial resources to support immediate and long-term recovery efforts. Today, two new mission congregations have started in areas where there once had been no Lutheran presence, proof that God does work all things, even disasters, for good.
