A team from LCMS Disaster Response heads from St. Louis to Pilger, Neb., on June 18, 2014, following deadly dual tornadoes that nearly swept the small farming community off the map two days earlier. An LCMS congregation, St. John Lutheran Church, and its parsonage were demolished by the storm, as were the homes of several LCMS members. The Rev. Michael Meyer, manager of LCMS Disaster Response, says the team hopes to bring comfort and some level of stability to the pastor, church and its members as they deal with the aftermath of the storm. “We’d like to lift the congregation up in our prayers … so they can be agents of Christ’s mercy to the community,” he says in the video.
